DR800: Time is running out.

09 06 09 - 21:05 The previous installment of the story left off on the Saturday evening of the bank holiday weekend, with a good few inches of chassis now consigned to my scrap metal bin, and the new tail light/plate hanger just about bolted on. Sarah and I decided to celebrate this fact by venturing into town for our first proper night out since moving to Derby in January. And getting a bit drunk.

So I find myself shaking off a hangover on Sunday morning and venturing back into the workshop, realising that we are due to spend the afternoon and all of Monday at the British Superbike round at Donington Park. There's still no indicators, the side panels are in a corner, and half the wiring loom is sat on the back wheel, in the absence of anything else to hold it up.

Time to sort out a few details then...

Step one is the indicators, quickly solved by fabricating a bracket which bolts onto the underside of the tail-light support. The indicators in the photo are a pair of LED ones which go quite nicely with the tail light. Unfortunately, they don't flash, so they went back on the shelf until I have the time to carry out the necessary electrickery to make them work.

Indicator Bracket

Step two is something to keep all the electrics in - so a 1mm ally sheet becomes an undertray. I even managed to get that black box (that I'm assuming is the CDI) the location of which so offended me to fit under the seat. Hurrah.

Note the odd indicators. At least they flash properly.

The afternoon was spent cycling to Donington and back for the BSB qualifying, then in the evening I stripped everything back down ready to chuck a couple of coats of paint on the following morning.

Painted
Hammered finish hammerite. Classy

Which left Monday evening to bolt everything back together, and apply a bit of butchery to the side panels.

Side panels pre-cutting
It's an interesting look, but it'll never catch on.
Side panels post-cutting
That'll do for now.

Good enough to get me to work the next day. Used tags: ,

» driverchris Graphic designer, bike and car nut, and vague acquaintance through the PB forum. I enjoy dipping into his blog from time to time, and this is a particularly cool post - classy interpretations of motorsport paint schemes, applied via the medium of Photoshop to a Fender Strat. Can you guess them all?

» Lois on the loose Stumbled across the name Lois Pryce via the ADVrider forums. Have just finished reading her first book, detailing her ride from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego on an XT225 Serow.

» Old man on a bike The print version of this got dropped on my desk at work by a colleague. 73 year old man rides from Mexico to Tierra del Fuego on a CG125. Hooray for daft adventures.
